Genesis 3:9
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
“Where art thou?” – Consider the heart that asks this question… It is a question with desire for the one He asking for, it is with concern, with interest, with love, affection, compassion… It is the call of a lover looking for His love. He desires to commune with His love, to simply be with His love and enjoy their presence… It is a call that says ‘come to me’; ‘present yourself to me’; let me see you and love you’.
“the Lord God called to Adam” – It was a peronal call. It’s an intimate call. One on one. From one heart to another. A singular interest, a singular love and desire.
Where are you friend? #selah
Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Do you feel you have been labouring? Striving and grafting at making this life work? Is life a toil? Is it just simply difficult, complicated, impossible…? Is your heart heavy and burdened? Carrying a load that breaks you, does your heart ache for something, for someone? … Is that where you are? Come to Him… He WILL give you rest!
Matthew 23:37
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Where are you? Do you despise the idea of a holy, perfect, seperated law of love? Do you hate to be controlled? Are you sick of hearing God speak through men? Are you tired of God’s teaching and moulding? Are you full of bitterness and resentment? Does it enrage you to be told you’re wrong? Listen to the compassion in God’s heart…
Paraphrase – Oh, Matthew, Matthew, you who hate teaching and correction… How often I would have gathered you into my most intimate presence, tended to you, comforted you, fed you and protected you, surrounded you in love, wisdom and contentment…. But you would not come! Where are you?
Where are you friend? Consider the one who asks for you? God! The one true living God! Calls to you! He calls you to Him, to His infinite provision, to His perfect peace and rest, to His tender love and protection. Truly you know the truth of Acts 9:5 it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks(goad/cattle prod – conviction). But yet He calls you!
Hosea 2:14,16
14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.
…
16 And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord , that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.
Are you backslidden? Are you in a place where your life is doubly worse than it ever was before? Falling in love with your sin again; giving yourself over to pleasure; forsaking your responsibilities; turning your back on God-given gifts that were once so precious to you. Have you forgotten the precious moment you were born again and life was birthed in you that was never there before? Have you forgotten the miraculous and compassionate blessings that God poured out into you life? You could not deny the goodness and mercy of God… but you have forgotten.
Oh by the grace of God may you hear His call tonight. Listen to His heart… He is longing for you! He is desperate for your love and He will seek you out and allure you! He will do everything to prove His love to you and convince you of His love to you. He will strive with you heart! He is longing to forgive you; to restore you; to lift you up. Where are you? Come to Him.
Luke 4:18
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised…
God is calling for you. An individual call, an intimate call. He asks “Where art thou?”
”poor” – Are you weak? Are you
“Brokenhearted” – Are you brokenhearted? Does your heart ache? Are you losing sleep, losing control? Is your mind a fog full of one thing that your heart is tearing over?
“captives” – Do you feel like a captive; imprisoned by this worlds system; or your own selfish ways? Do you feel stuck; trapped; isolated?
“blind” – Do you feel that you cannot see hope; you cannot see the truth; you cannot see the victory?
“bruised” – Are you hurt? Are you wounded in spirit? Are trodden down and battered by the storm? Has the enemy struck a blow?
The incredible truth in this verse really needs to be meditated on. Don’t just read it. Take time to consider it, make it real in your heart. He is calling for you friend. Where are you? He doesn’t ask what state are you in, He just asks WHERE are you? Come to me! Present yourself to me and take of my love, my forgiveness, my healing and my tender care. Where are you? Are you in a place of self pity? Are you hiding in a place of depression? Are you looking for a place to fix yourself? Are you hiding in a mask of self confidence and deception?
Come to Him. He offers hope, healing, deliverance, sight and liberty. He longs to give them to you! His heart is calling for YOU! Where are you? Wherever you are… Come.
Isaiah 1:10,18-19
10 Hear the word of the Lord , ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
…
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord : though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
Do you feel your sin is beyond forgiveness? Do you believe that you are beyond hope? Are you in a place of deep shame and remorse? Maybe you would count yourself as Paul said “the chief of sinners”. Maybe you have committed terrible acts that would be hard for any man to forgive… He is calling for you friend. “Come now”!
“crimson” – In bible times this was a dye that could not be washed out. It was a permanent mark upon a garment. This is our sin. It is a permanent mark against us. But ah… GOD… is able to wash them! If you be “willing” to heed His call, if you be “obedient” to His call and come to Him… You will walk forgiven and renewed with white garments and enjoy the good of His provision.
Isaiah 29:13-15
13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from The Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?
Is this where you are? Hiding behind a mask of righteousness? Do your friends and family see your heart or is your heart far away from the life that you act out? Are you in a place of self righteousness? Are you in the same place as Cain; sincere but sincerely wrong; striving to do your best but not what is required? Are you living in a place of pride; according to your own logic? The warning is clear, urgent and severe…
Yet He is calling you! With a heart that longs to simply commune with you! To be with you… He longs for you simply to be with Him! To deny yourself; deny your own ways; deny your own opinions, judgements and desires… and to simply love Him and be with Him! Where are you wandering soul? Where are you? You will never know of His rest, His peace, His joy, His blessing, His provision… until you come!
Jeremiah 31:2-6
2 Thus saith the Lord , The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying , Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
4 Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
5 Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.
6 For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the Lord our God.
And The Lord God called Adam and said unto him, Where are thou? Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion, let us go unto The Lord our God! Our father, our shepherd, our redeemer, our healer, our saviour, our King! Where art thou? ‘come to me’; ‘present yourself to me’; let me see you and love you’.
What a lovely piece. Blessed by this :)
